CQ 160 meter contest CW 2007

This year we decided to give it a try in this quite popular contest. All our antennas survived , even Kirill didn´t destroy anything in our antenna farm. The beverages are still in the field from CQ WW Contest so we had enough time to even try phased beverage antenna system.
We (OM3GI, OM8AAW and OM3BH) met on wednesdayt evening at the om8a QTH. Later on OM3RM and OM3NA joined us.

Everything is OK but the switch does not work....

During next day OM3GI and OM3BH checked all beverage antennas and preperad second beverage antenna for phasing towards USA. In the end we  used 5 single beverage antennas (each about 1,8m high) and  2 phased beverages 267m long and 3m about the ground to the states.  In the evening Joo OM3GI prepared the shack. It ment  2x IC781 and  PA OM2500HF.

On thursday  Drago S59A /ex S59UN,YU3ZV/, showed up so we spent nice thime with him. During friday we solved some minor problems in the shack so we were ready to go much earlier than usual. This happens seldom.

OM3GI started at midnight and was busy till morning. His tactics was to stay on frequency and run. He didnt spent time on calling multipliers. This showed up to be a good decision

Jozef OM3GI and Tibi OM3RM during first night ...

There were more than 600 QSOs in the log after first night. More than 150 stations from USA came in to log.
We could work some stations even during the day. We hoped that in the evening the condition will allow to work JAs and more multis from east. Unfortunately this did not happen.  We could work some UA9 but none from JA. During second night we logged some MUST multipliers from Caribean and about 70 USA stations.

We did not repeat the tactics from OM3GI and we tried to call some rare multis. But this did not pay off. Stations like CE1/K7CA, HP1WW and V31YN had strong signal in Europe but to call them was just wasting time. All EU called at once and it was inpossible to find out if they are comming back to us.

On sunday afternoon Ivan OM3LA and Wolfgang OE3WLB showed up. Wolfgang had to repair one amplifier and Ivan called CQ on the band. We realized the lack of multis from the east. We still had only 76 DXCC!!!

Laci OM2VL came in the evening and operated the station till midnight. His CQ was fruitfull, some rare multis (9N,XU,DU,VK6,VR,3xYB and some JAs) from east called and were logged.

We reached our target 1500 QSO and 1 million points.
Happy with our result we went to bed.
